Perimeter Wifi dog fence August 18, 2009 M. Prewit (Kansas) 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
I was really leary about buying this fence after reading the reviews, but I have had no problems with it. I have a metal garage door and cars in the driveway and they don't cause any problems. I put the base on top of the fridge so it would be up high. It only took 2 days to train our German shorthaired pointer. She is pretty hard headed and never has left, my only concern is what she will do if a rabbit runs out from under our storage shed. Hopefully she won't take off...I have the collar set on 4. I chose this system over the petsafe because it was recommended for dogs over 60 pounds.
The system kept our dog in the yard even when the rabbit from under our shed took off!
Fantastic! July 3, 2009 cheffie46 (St. Paul, MN USA) 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
Easy set up- it took all of 20 minutes for my wife and I to have it fully functional. Just make sure you are not setting it up near the fridge, car, TV, swingset, etc. as it will interfere with the WiFi capabilities.
The only one not impressed with it is our 11 month old English Springer Spaniel!
I rate this product 5 stars wholeheartedly!
Met expectations September 13, 2009 B. Watson 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
After reading all the reviews I could find on this product, I decided to take a chance since my buried Invisible Fence kept shorting out and I refused to spend another $100 to find the latest short for a repair. Armed with the knowledge that garage doors and other large metal objects between the base unit and collar would impede the collar receiver's ability to beep or shock, I found a place in the middle of the 2nd floor (3rd floor above the back yard), set the boundary and checked all around. Boundary seems to be reasonably within range from back yard to front - so far so good.
Collar battery seems to be running down a bit faster than I expected but otherwise, I'm satisfied with the product.
Works as well as I expected January 21, 2010 C. B. Anderson (Heber Springs, AR USA) The idea behind this product is great. Performance has been satisfactory, but I live in a very rural area and probably don't have the interference problems that others might encounter. I did have to shorten the range because at maximum range, the base would sometimes lose connection with the collar my dog could get through the invisible fence. The shortened range still gives him plenty of room to run around and it definitely has taught him to stay on the property. I first had the collar set on "beep" only (no shock) and trained him with a leash to run away from the boundary when the beep sounded. After that I let him out on his own and progressively increased the correction level over the next week until he learned what was expected.
It's seems that the performance suffers greatly when the collar battery gets low. I suspect that is a major contributor to the poor reviews. I find that I need to swap the rechargeable battery out almost everyday for good performance. It comes with 2 batteries, but the base will charge 2 at a time, so it might be a good idea to buy an extra battery.
My favorite feature of this is the ability to take it with you. My family and I have a travel trailer and the Perimeter dog fence is the perfect way to keep our dog within our campsite area. I plug the base into an outlet on my travel trailer and set the desired range on the collar. Couldn't be easier.
Caution with this system October 30, 2009 C. Broome (Greenville, MS United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First, this item shipped from Gulf Coast Pet Supplies, which although not located on the Gulf, did a great job of advising me concerning this product. When it did not work as expected they were more than happy to return my purchase price, so kudos to them. They were very helpful replacing it with a hard wire system.
As for the Wi-Fi,-be careful. It really does have trouble transmitting through solid objects. If I placed the device by a back window it worked in the backyard but not at all in the front and vice-versa. There was nothing b/t the front and back windows except wood and sheetrock. The available information also said it would work better from a higher location, so I placed it upstairs where it did not work at all except directly out the window by which it was located. My house is mostly wood, so I thought it would be perfect for me, but the roof is something called Select Slate, a concrete/composite roofing, and I think this totally blocked transmission. I speculate that if your roof is anything other than thin shingles you will have trouble with this system.
Another thing it does not tell you in the propaganda is how the distance is set. I assumed you could dial in an approximate distance into the transmitter then test the collar by walking around the yard but this method is impossible. You activate the base, then walk the collar out to the distance you wish to set, leave the collar, return to the base and hit an activate button.
I think if your dog was used to a collar this system might work fine if you took him to the park, but for household use it needs some reengineering. This system might be called version 1.0.
